Trong bài viết này, mình sẽ trao đổi với các bạn một số định hướng cho dạng bài cơ bản cuối cùng của IELTS Writing Task 2 và cùng các bạn viết mở bài cho một đề bài cụ thể
Một số đề bài ví dụ:
- Problems and Solutions: In the developed world, average life expectancy is increasing. What problems will this cause for individuals and society? Suggest some measures that could be taken to reduce the impact of ageing populations.
- Causes and Effects: In many parts of the world today there is a profitable market for products which lighten or whiten people’s skin. Outline the reasons for using such products and discuss what effects they have in terms of health and society.
- Causes and Solutions: Crime rate in teenagers has increased dramatically in many countries in recent years. Give some possible reasons for this increase and suggest solutions to overcome youth crimes.
Language
Cause:
- Since/Because
- Because of/Owing to/Due to (the fact that)
- The reason that…/why…/for… is that…
- This matter/problem… | can be attributed to …/ is resulted from
- … lead to this prolem…
Effect:
- Thus/Therefore/Consequently.
- As a result/consequence,…
- The result of … is/would be/could be…
- … would/could result in
Solutions:
- One possible/notable way to solve/overcome/deal with/mitigate the problem would be/is …
- People/Goverment/The society/Individuals/ Each individual should focus his/their attention on + Ving.
Example: Each individual should focus his attention on protecting the enviroment.
Essay Plan and Sample
Ở bài viết này, mình sẽ đưa ra dàn ý cụ thể và hướng dẫn cách viết cho từng phần, vì tuy chia cấu trúc rất rõ ràng, việc triển khai từng đoạn lại không hoàn toàn giống những dạng bài khác.
Đề bài: In the developed world, average life expectancy is increasing. What problems will this cause for individuals and society? Suggest some measures that could be taken to reduce the impact of ageing populations.
Introduction:
1. Introducing the topic:
Ở đây bạn sẽ đưa ra topic của đề bài. Ngay từ đề bài, topic đã rất rõ ràng, bạn nên diễn đạt bằng một cụm danh từ: increasing life expectancy.
Từ đó, dựa vào những cấu trúc mình đã gợi ý ở bài viết số 3, có thể viết:
Increasing life expectancy has become a matter of great concern.
2. Giving background information and Narrowing the topic:
Ở đây việc nới lại topic rất dễ, đó là Increasing life expectancy in the developed world.
Bạn có thể viết: This phenomenon proves to be more serious in the developed world.
Các bạn cần chú ý rằng Developed world chính là các nước đã phát triển, có thể paraphrase bằng cụm từ Industrialized Nations/Countries (những quốc gia đã công nghiệp hóa). Btw, bạn cũng cần lưu ý rằng, Industrialized (North American English-Tiếng Anh Mỹ) hoặc Industrialised (British English-Tiếng Anh Anh) đều đúng nhưng cần sử dụng nhất quán trong toàn bài, hoàn toàn là Anh-Mỹ, hoặc hoàn toàn là Anh-Anh.
3. Giving your point of view and mentioning the main areas covered in the essay:
Mình vẫn giữ nguyên tên bước, tuy nhiên ở dạng đề này, bạn không phải đưa ý kiến của mình vào, chỉ cần Mentioning the main areas covered in the essay. Điều đó có nghĩa là bạn sẽ đề cập trước rằng ở thân bài bạn sẽ giải quyết Problems và Solutions. Mình sẽ đưa ra một số mẫu câu bạn có thể vận dụng cho tất cả các đề bài Problems và Solutions
- Although there are undoubtedly some problems | negative consequences/effects of this trend, measures can be taken to mitigate these potential consequences/problems. (mitigate:làm giảm nhẹ dịu bớt)
(Chú ý tránh lặp, nếu ở Clause 1 bạn dùng problems, thì ở clause 2 bạn nên dùng consequences)
- While some negative consequences are appearent/unavoidable/undoubted, goverment and individuals | societies can take steps to address the problems.
- Serious problems have arisen as a result of this; however, there are solutions that should be taken into consideration.
Đây là một số gợi ý để bạn không mất thời gian suy nghĩ cho mở bài; Tuy nhiên, nếu có điều kiện, bạn nên viết cụ thể hơn, bám sát vào đề bài.
Từ đây, bạn có một mở bài hoàn chỉnh:
Increasing life expectancy has become a matter of great concern in the recent years. This phenomenon proves to be more serious in the developed world. Although there are undoubtedly some negative consequences of this trend, measures can be taken to mitigate these potential problems.
