Ở bài viết trước, mình đã cùng các bạn viết mở bài cho một đề bài cụ thể. Trong bài viết này, chúng ta sẽ cùng viết tiếp phần thân bài và kết bài, cụ thể viết về các vấn đề (Problems) và hướng giải quyết (Solutions). Mình sẽ đưa ra một số gợi ý và hướng dẫn cách viết câu, dùng từ. Các đoạn văn được lấy từ http://ielts-simon.com, đây là một site hay để bạn đọc các bài essay mẫu.
Task:
In the developed world, average life expectancy is increasing. What problems will this cause for individuals and society? Suggest some measures that could be taken to reduce the impact of ageing populations.
Theo đề bài thì cấu trúc của thân bài sẽ rất rõ ràng, bao gồm hai đoạn
Body paragraph 1: Problems
Body paragraph 2: Solutions
Body paragraph 1: Problems.
Ở đoạn này, bạn nên đưa ra 2-3 vấn đề. Với mỗi vấn đề, bạn sẽ lần lượt làm theo các bước sau:
- Problem (General).
- Explanation/Example and Result.
Bạn sẽ nêu vấn đề, giải thích hoặc nêu ví dụ, và sau đó nói về hậu quả của vấn đề đó.
Ở đề bài này, bạn có thể thấy rõ hai vấn đề. Đầu tiên đó là khi tuổi thọ trung bình tăng, số lượng người được hưởng chế độ lương hưu sẽ tăng. Kết quả (Result) sẽ là chính phủ sẽ phải chi trả cho những người không còn làm việc đóng góp vào sự phát triển kinh tế đồng thời chịu những giảm sút trong tiền thuế, và có thể lực lượng lao động trẻ sẽ phải bù vào phần thiếu hụt đó.
Vấn đề thứ hai đó là khi lượng người già tăng, áp lực sẽ dồn lên chăm sóc sức khỏe. Khi đó, chính phủ sẽ phải đầu tư nhiều hơn cho dịch vụ chăm sóc sức khỏe cũng như những người trẻ sẽ phải dành nhiều thời gian, tiền bạc cho việc chăm sóc sức khỏe người già.
Chúng ta sẽ cùng viết đoạn văn về Problems:
a. Topic Sentence:
Trong câu văn đầu tiên, bạn phải báo hiệu rằng trong đoạn văn này, bạn sẽ nói về những vấn đề của việc tăng tuổi thọ trung bình:
As people live longer and the populations of developed countries grow older, several related problems can be anticipated. (Khi con người sống lâu hơn và dân số những nước phát triển đang trở nên già hơn, có thể dự đoán được những vấn đề liên quan nảy sinh).
Từ đó, bạn có thể tự hình thành cho mình cách viết chung cho câu đầu tiên của đoạn văn này. Có thể là As…, several related problems can be anticipated/foreseen…
b. Problem 1:
-General problem: The main issue is that there will obviously be more people of retirement age who will be eligible to receive a pension.
- Vấn đề đầu tiên, bạn có thể sử dụng những cụm từ như: The main/first/most obvious/most apparent/most noteworthy/most important | issue/problem/matter.
- Sử dụng mệnh đề quan hệ (who) làm tăng tính phức tạp của câu văn, đây là một đặc trưng của Academic Writing.
- Bạn cũng cần chú ý cách dùng từ Academic word: be eligible to: đủ tư cách, thích hợp để làm gì.
- Explanation and result: The government will have to spend a large amount of money to pay these senior citizens who no longer contribute to the development of the economy. Moreover, the proportion of younger, working adults will be smaller, and governments will therefore receive less money in taxes in relation to the size of the population. In other words, an ageing population will mean a greater tax burden for working adults.
- Paraphrase: Paraphrase là một trong những vấn đề đáng quan tâm của Academic Writing. Bạn không thể dùng một từ “elderly people” từ đầu đến cuối được. Thay vào đó, bạn có thể sử dụng: senior citizens/members, people of retirement age, hoặc nói về toàn thể: ageing population.
- Academic Words: Những từ ngữ mang tính học thuật sẽ làm nổi bật hơn bài viết của bạn. Ví dụ: senior citizens, the proportion of…, tax burden.
- Linking words: Moreover, Therefore, In other words.
c. Problem 2:
-General problem: Further pressures will include a rise in the demand for healthcare.
Further pressures là một cụm từ hay. Bạn có thể sử dụng các cụm từ khác: Another problem/pressure | Aditional problem(s) | What is of equal seriousness/importance is….
-Explanation: This is due to the fact that elderly people are often subject to many diseases, which is detrimental to their health.
Bạn dùng cụm từ due to để lí giải. Bên cạnh đó, câu văn sử dụng hiệu quả các từ Academic như be subject to và detrimental.
-Result: In this way, the government will have to spend more investing on healthcare and young adults will increasingly have to look after their elderly relatives, which can be bad for their work.
Từ đó, bạn có đoạn văn đầu tiên của thân bài:
As people live longer and the populations of developed countries grow older, several related problems can be anticipated. The main issue is that there will obviously be more people of retirement age who will be eligible to receive a pension. The government will have to spend a large amount of money to pay these senior citizens who no longer contribute to the development of the economy. Body paragraph 2: Solutions.
Các bạn đọc đoạn văn mẫu sau:
There are several actions that governments could take to solve the problems described above. Firstly, a simple solution would be to increase the retirement age for working adults, perhaps from 65 to 70. Nowadays, people of this age tend to be healthy enough to continue a productive working life. A second measure would be for governments to encourage immigration in order to increase the number of working adults who pay taxes. Finally, money from national budgets will need to be taken from other areas and spent on vital healthcare, accommodation and transport facilities for the rising numbers of older citizens.
Phần solutions rất dễ viết. Bạn chỉ cần nêu ra ý tưởng và cách thực hiện ý tưởng đó. Một solution viết trong 1-2 câu văn.
Ở đoạn văn mẫu, câu topic rất rõ ràng, có thể dùng cho nhiều bài viết tương tự. Có 3 solutions được đưa ra có thể thấy rất rõ từ đoạn văn mẫu:
- Tăng tuổi về hưu trung bình từ 65 lên 70.
- Khuyến khích nhập cư để tăng lượng người lao động, những người sẽ đóng thuế.
- Sử dụng nguồn vốn từ các lĩnh vực khác.
Từ đó, bạn có thể theo dõi bài viết hoàn chỉnh:

Trước khi kết thúc, mình muốn nhấn mạnh một điều mình đã nói rất nhiều. Đó là 2-3 đoạn và 2-3 ý. Đó là điều bạn nên làm. 2-3 đoạn thân bài là lí tưởng, và mỗi đoạn thân bài lại có 2-3 ý nhỏ(supporting ideas) và sau đó có expanding(triển khai) và example(ví dụ) là tốt nhất. Tuy nhiên, 2 đoạn thân bài thì mỗi đoạn nên có 3 ý nhỏ, 3 đoạn thân bài thì mỗi đoạn nên có 2 ý nhỏ, đó là điều kiện để bạn viết đủ dài và sâu.
